Beautiful polychrome, authentic Japanese woodcut (Ukiyo-e) on handmade paper by Utagawa Yoshitsuya (1822-1866). It concerns Act 11 of the Chûshingura and is the right panel of a triptych. With a loss in the upper right corner, mounted on a carrier.
Autographed by the master, Yoshitsuya I: 1822-66; family name Koko Mankichi; art names Hôon, Ichieisai and Yoshitsuya; entered Utagawa Kuniyoshi's workshop when he was about 15 years old; considered a minor student of Kuniyoshi; produced some successful warrior prints; also provided sketches for picture books and designs for tattoos.
