Antique wooden statue - Mary with child - Oak - Germany - 17th/18th century

Unique 17th/18th century oak sculpture of Mary with the child Jesus in her arm. The statue is shaped in a brutalist manner and equally brutalist flattened on the back, which indicates that the statue served as an ornament in a church or more likely in a chapel.

The child Jesus is missing an arm and a hand, the statue has suffered enormously from time and perhaps use, but radiates such authenticity that this weathering only contributes to the timeless appearance of this wooden statue.
