Endearing painting of a peasant interior with chair and pot stove by the Dutch painter Hermanus Cornelis Hokken (1927-1988) from 1945 in oil on panel. Nicely framed and signed at the bottom right and dated 8-'45.

Herman Cornelius Hokken was born in 1927 in Sliedrecht and died there in 1988. At the age of 17 he went to the Academy of Fine Arts (Willem de Kooning Academy) in Rotterdam for drawing lessons. He mainly painted pools with ducks and farms in the Dutch landscape. He has also painted dune views, beach views and boats.

He has exhibited in the United States (New York), Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands (including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Venlo and Rijnsburg). Herman Hokken also painted under the pseudonyms: Van Rijswijk and Van Maanen.
