Egon Hillebrand wall lamp - Space Age - Milk glass, chrome - Germany - 1970-1979
Rare, iconic Space Age wall lamp by the world-renowned German designer Egon Hillebrand with milk glass round sphere and chrome fixture. With model number 8765-111 and original factory sticker. Manufactured in the Hillebrand Lighting Leuchtenfabrik Germany in the 1970s in a magnificent mid-century modern/Space Age style.
The light fittings factory was founded by the Hillebrand family in 1881, who were trained plumbers and installers. The factory was located in Neheim, Germany on Mohnestrasse. In the beginning, the company was mainly involved in making lids from German stone beer mugs, metal household utensils, kerosene lamps and hurricane lanterns. Around 1900, son Franz joined the company and the factory was converted so that electrical light fittings could also be repaired.
In 1936 Franz's eldest son, named Egon, joins the factory that focuses on developing office and desk lighting. The factory closed during the Second World War and reopened in June 1945. In 1954 Hillebrand puts the 'Leuchtspiegel' on the market. A mirror surrounded by lighting in an acrylic ring. There is collaboration with Ernest Igl (1920-2001), an industrial designer from Prague, and new materials are used, such as perforated metal, for example for fluorescent lamp shades. The manufacturing focuses mainly on the development of lighting for restaurants, decorative home lighting and object lighting. The factory was closed in 1995.
