Brothers Paridon: 'Jesus Sacred Heart' - Polychrome glazed plaster - Netherlands - 1950-1959
Special and large church statue of Jesus Sacred Heart by the famous Gebroeders Paridon from Amsterdam, circa 1950. Signed by the masters.
The sculpture activity of the Van Paridon family is said to have started in 1900 in a small farm in Amsterdam. Around 1905, the brothers Pieter (1876), Peter (1885) and Hendrik Van Paridon (1887) opened a studio in the Jordaan, where they made plaster sculptures of composers and mythological figures. Later on, the Van Paridons, who came from a Catholic family from Baarn, switched to religious sculpture. Large church statues under the name 'Paridur' and smaller statues for the living room. The large church statues not only found their way in the Netherlands, a considerable part went abroad.
