Rare, professionally framed, authentic art card of the world-famous artwork by Roger Raveel entitled 'Self-portrait with cigarette' from 1949. Released on the occasion of the 2012 exhibition “Biennale of Painting: Man in Pictures”.
Roger Raveel (1921-2013) was a Belgian post-expressionist painter, draftsman and graphic artist, related to pop art, of which he was a precursor. After all, Raveel had been working in that direction since 1952. Raveel received his education at the Academies of Deinze (under Hubert Malfait) and Ghent (under Jos Verdegem). He also became a teacher himself at the Deinze Academy (1960-1973). From 1948 onwards, Raveel developed a very personal style and, based on a new perception of the objects in his environment, builds a new plastic language. He strove for an intense interaction between the painting and the viewer. A museum was founded for him in his native village, Machelen aan de Leie, and opened in 1999. Works by Raveel can be found worldwide.
