One of the iconic postcards from the Italian/Belgian publisher of postcards under the brand 'Marco', Marco Marcovici. Titled 'Ostende - Malle-Poste Ostende-Douvres. Mail-Boat Ostend-Dover' shows the packet boat "Pieter de Coninck" leaving the port of Ostend on its way to Dover. On the left, the West Staketsel and in the background, the East Staketsel of Ostend. Signed in the print and professionally framed.
Marco Marcovici (1873-1938) was a versatile tourist publisher, with great attention to West Flanders. From 1901 until his death he worked in Brussels as a publisher of tourist picture and fantasy maps. In the interwar period he was a prolific publisher of both picturesque and novelty postcards under the trade name "Marco". After World War I, his company encouraged battlefield tourism with its many views of the devastated regions.
