Gerard Gaudaen (Sint-Niklaas, January 9, 1927 - there, June 26, 2003) was a Belgian lino and wood carver and mainly the designer of a number of ex-libris. He trained at the Academies of Sint-Niklaas and Ghent (with Victor Stuyvaert ) and the NHISKA (Mark Severin and Jan Vaerten). He also took lessons from Romain Malfliet. He won several prizes for his work at home and abroad, such as the Baron de Brouwer prize (1955 and 1958), the National Bank prize for ex-libris (1956-57), the Royal Academy prize (1961), the European Prize for ex-libris -libris Olomoue (Czechoslovakia, 1966), Beurs E. Baie (1967) and the Golden Medal of the Flemish Council (1994).

He became a drawing teacher at the Athenaeum of Sint-Niklaas and a woodcut teacher at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Ghent (1963-70). He was a teacher and director (1971-91) at the Academy of Antwerp. After the war he ended up in the graphic studio of Victor Stuyvaert and in Antwerp with Mark Severin. In 1983 he became director of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp. He remained so until 1991. In the meantime, he held dozens of exhibitions at home and abroad, was active as a book illustrator, as a draftsman and designer of stamps and bookplates and was one of the founders of the International Exlibris Center in Sint-Niklaas.
