Marc Chagal: 'Maternité au Centaur' - Offset print - France - 1950-1959

Beautiful, large offset print of one of the absolute masterpieces of the renowned French painter Marc Chagall (1887-1985) entitled 'Maternité au Centaur' (original from 1957). Professionally framed behind glass.

Marc Chagall, born Movsja Zakharovich Shagal (7 July 1887 in Vitebsk – 28 March 1985 in Saint-Paul-de-Vence) was a French painter of Jewish-Russian descent. Chagall was born in the part of the Russian Empire that later became Belarus. He later changed his name to the more French Marc Chagall. Moving to Paris, he befriended a number of avant-garde poets and young artists, including Guillaume Apollinaire, Robert Delaunay and Fernand Léger. In Paris, Chagall participated in the exhibition of the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne. His work is often associated with surrealism. But his work actually falls under different movements, although it is not fully part of any one. Chagall has a very own style that feels dreamy. He drew his inspiration from Russian folk art and life, his memories of his youth and the role of Judaism in this. He combined elements of this with, among other things, the modern styles he knew from Paris. His work shows traces of expressionism, cubism and fauvism. He also regularly depicted biblical scenes.
