Raymond Van Den Berge: 'Flower still life with rhododendrons' - Oil on canvas - Belgium - 1950-1959
Beautiful, large flower still life by the Belgian painter Raymond Van Den Berge. Signed by the master at the bottom right and framed in an antique wooden frame. Raymond Van Den Berge mainly painted landscapes and the occasional flower still life. We present here 1 of these rarer works.
Raymond Van Den Berge was born in Erwetegem (Zottegem) on 26.08.1924. In 1943 he obtained the diploma of teacher at the Episcopal Normal School in Sint-Niklaas. After teaching for a year at the municipal school of Erwetegem, he earned his living as a traveling salesman in typewriters and calculators. During the war years, in order to earn some money, he painted small works with views of the area. Later he painted landscapes from the Flemish Ardennes region as a hobby. When 'Kunst in Vrije Tijd' (KIVT) was founded in 1951, Raymond Van Den Berge was elected as secretary.
Léo Piron, the son-in-law of Valerius De Saedeleer, encouraged Raymond to continue painting landscapes and especially emphasized the skies. During that period, Raymond Van Den Berge was also allowed to exhibit a few works in Leupegem.
