Jean Van Wel: 'The haystacks' - Oil on panel - Belgium - 1940-1949
Beautiful landscape painting with haystacks by the renowned Belgian post-expressionist painter Jean Van Wel (Uccle, 1906 - Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, 1990). Several of his works are in the possession of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, this master needs no further comment. Signed and professionally framed behind glass.
Painter, watercolorist and draftsman of poetic realism but in a post-expressionist style: horses, racetracks, landscapes, cityscapes and still lifes are his favorite themes. Studied in Saint-Luc in Saint-Gilles. Evolves from expressionism to a poetry reminiscent of Raoul Dufy. His painting is spontaneous and brilliant, with an explosion of bright colours.
