Ice bucket and ashtray Kristallglashütte Ernst Buder - Lead crystal glass, brass - West Germany - 1960-1969

Vintage mid-century ice bucket and ashtray in lead crystal, finished with brass, from the West German Kristallglashütte Ernst Buder. With original sticker.

The origins of the Buder glassworks lie in Triebel in present-day Poland. In addition to Werner Strietzel, the three owners of the Triebel glass factory at the time included the then businessman Ernst Buder. Before 1945, up to 300 glassblowers were employed in the production of hollow and crystal glass at the Triebel glass factory. Since mid-1947, members of the Buder family had been discussing the construction of a new glassworks in West Germany. Entry into the West German market was difficult for the newly established Glashütte Buder, as the long-established West German glassworks already covered most of the domestic demand. Buder had to open new markets and produced for export – with unexpected success.
