Sculpture Luis Martinez Lafuente: 'Storm' - Bronze, stone - Spain - 1970-1979

Very finely sculpted statue by the Spanish artist Luis Martinez Lafuente (Aragon, 1935 - Zaragoza, 2006) entitled 'Tempestad/Storm' in green and gold-coloured patinated bronze on a stone base. Signed on the back (and labeled on the front), number 458 in a worldwide edition of 2500 pieces. Includes certificate of authenticity. The image shows a skipper braving a storm at the helm of his ship, while he seems to want to protect his child from the storm.

Luis Martinez Lafuente was born in Brea de Aragón in 1935. He was inspired by famous Spanish sculptors such as Alejandro Cañada and Dolores Franco. In the 1960s he moved to Barcelona, where he studied at the Sant Jorge Art School for sculptors. He became a teacher at the Zaragoza Art Academy and became its director from 1985. In 1990 he was appointed professor at the Royal Art School of San Luis. His works have won several national and international prizes.
