Rare farm view with landscape and farm animals by the Belgian painter Jef Louis Van Leemputten (1867-1948) entitled 'After the rain' at the back. Signed by the master at the bottom right and framed in a lovely frame of partly gilded, partly black-stained and florally sculpted oak.
Jef Louis Van Leemputten, or Joseph Louis Van Leemputten, was a painter born in Werchter and died there in 1948. He received his artistic training from Charles Verlat and took part in the preparatory competition for the Rome Prize in 1886 and 1889. He had a preference for historical war scenes, but also painted scenes with mainly farmyard animals.
