The Genk School is the name given to a number of artists who, or to a genre of painting from the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries that focuses on picturesque rural corners from the Belgian Genk (then still written Genck) and surrounding areas. places. In addition to the picturesque village center of Genk with its neo-Gothic church, the surrounding landscape, which at the time was still largely deserted, was barren surrounding heathland. More than two hundred and fifty artists are known who were active in Genk in the period 1840 and 1940 and are therefore considered part of the Genk School.
