Sylvain Beerens: 'Sunset' - Oil on panel - Belgium - 1970-1979
Particularly colorful, expressionist work with a view of a village from a forest at a sunset that seems to set the surroundings on fire by the Belgian painter Sylvain Beerens. Oil on panel, signed by the master at the bottom right and beautifully framed in gilded oak.
Sylvain Beerens (Sint-Maria-Oudenhove, 1917-2005) was a painter and cartoonist from the Flemish Ardennes, best known for his magical landscapes. Most of his oeuvre consists of freely imagined landscapes from the Flemish Ardennes and the Scheldt and Leie region. But Beerens also painted Dutch, Italian and Spanish panoramas. In addition to landscapes, he also painted religious scenes, such as a Stations of the Cross that was consecrated in the church of Sint-Maria-Lierde in 2001.
